it's unclear if that can general tone
00:00:21
will last after they get into some
issues that have put the u.s.
00:00:25
And Russia at odds including possibly
the Russian meddling in the u.s.

regime and its encroachments on Ukraine

Egyptian officials say a suicide
car bomber has attacked
00:00:38
a military checkpoint in northern Sinai
killing 10 soldiers there has been no claim
00:00:42
of responsibility so far for Friday's
blast Egypt has been battling an Islamic
00:00:48
state insurgency sense 2013 on the military
ousted as long as President Mohamed

00:00:57
South Korea and Japan agreed Friday to
urge the United Nations to speed up the
00:01:02
implementation of sanctions against North
Korea following the country's July 4th
00:01:07
intercontinental Melissa missile launch
the leaders also reaffirmed their
00:01:12
commitment to denuclearize North Korea and
they called on nations bordering North
00:01:17
Korea to help convince North Korea to stop
threatening other countries and halt its
00:01:21
ballistic missile program this is v.o.a.
00:01:24
News on Friday North Korean
state television broadcast
00:01:29
a statement declaring that beyond young
develop the intercontinental ballistic
00:01:33
missile like the one launched early this
week to defend itself against threats from
00:01:38
the u.s.
00:01:39
Speaking alongside Poland's president on
Thursday and Wausau present Trump labeled
00:01:44
North Korea's behavior
00:01:45
a threat and promise to confront it not
only must we secure our nations from the
00:01:50
threat of terrorism but we must also
confront the threat from North Korea and
00:01:57
that's what is
00:01:57
a safe threat. And we will confront
it very strongly president did and I
00:02:04
call on all nations to confront this level
of threat and publicly demonstrate to
00:02:10
North Korea that there are consequences for
their very very bad behavior Trump also
00:02:16
said he is not one to draw
00:02:18
a red lines or talk about his plans but
that he has some pretty severe things in
00:02:23
mind as it pertains to North Korea but
he did not elaborate street violence and
00:02:28
gang shootings on the rise in many big
cities around the world one of those cities
00:02:33
Rio de Janeiro Brazil which sees an
average of 15 gun battles daily and this
00:02:39
bystanders often caught in the crossfire
but people in Rio can now avoid street
00:02:44
violence thanks to several smartphone
applications get more in the story from
00:02:48
v.o.a. Islamica hope the latest app
known as short for where there is
00:02:53
a shootout in Portuguese was developed by
00:02:55
a group of volunteers the
app shows uses where
00:02:59
a shooting has occurred so they can avoid
the area it also sends alerts Instagram
00:03:04
Twitter Facebook and other social media
the group says there alerts reach nearly
00:03:09
3000000 people almost half the population
of Rio de Janeiro violent crime has risen
00:03:14
by 11 percent in the 1st half of this year
compared to the same period last year
00:03:19
more than 2300 people were killed in
the 1st 5 months of 2017 details about
00:03:25
shootouts location injuries fatalities and
other vital information are sourced by
00:03:30
users the app also fills us that this
tickle void since the city does not compile
00:03:34
date on shootouts in order to avoid false
alarms both programs appeared to strict
00:03:40
operating standards it's
00:03:42
a hope of viewing news Washington
Authorities say 28 and mates were killed in
00:03:46
a fight between rival gangs in
00:03:48
a state prison in the Mexican Pacific
resort to Acapulco security officials were
00:03:53
able to regain control of that prison
late in the day on Thursday and u.n.
00:03:58
Sponsored talks since May.
In the name but ending
00:04:00
a stalemate that has kept the honor of
Cyprus divided for more than 4 decades have
00:04:05
ended with an agreement and 2 Americans one
span you know the 1st casualties of the
00:04:10
opening of the running of the bulls in
Spain I'm Michael Brown reporting here in
00:04:15
Washington. That's the
latest world news from b
00:04:21
o
00:04:22
a. This is Africa news tonight on The
00:04:28
Voice of America. Good evening and
welcome welcome to Africa news
00:04:35
tonight from the English to Africa Service
of the Voice of America your source for
00:04:39
Pan Africa News and World developments I
mean he's really been Washington coming up
00:04:45
on African news tonight out
of the long jump it has been
00:04:48
a meeting by the hundreds Oh my every week
to truly know if they had been because
00:04:56
the area would just completely call Bell
people sleeping on the pavement and
00:05:02
thereby thankfully no way at all to annotation
and that's reporter Catherine field
00:05:08
in Paris explaining why police
evacuated about 3000 migrants from
00:05:13
a makeshift camp details coming up also 26
soldiers have been killed or wounded in
00:05:20
an attack by ISIS militants in Egypt's
Sinai region and that range if issues of
00:05:26
interest to Africa including jobs and
investment will be discussed at the g.
00:05:32
20 summit in Hamburg Germany will have these
stories and lots more ahead on African
00:05:37
lose tonight. Our top story it was
00:05:44
a violent today in the Sinai Egypt the
military reports 26 soldiers have been
00:05:50
killed or wounded in an attack by ISIS
militants the attack was launched on
00:05:55
a checkpoint in the city of in North Sinai
on the bow. Order with the Gaza Strip
00:06:01
the military claims to have killed at least
40 of the attackers militants launch
00:06:06
frequent attacks against soldiers and police
in the Sinai killing hundreds over the
00:06:10
past several years also the Associated
Press reports 3 Egyptian civilian
00:06:16
construction workers were reportedly
killed this week when military aircraft
00:06:21
mistakenly targeted their vehicle the
military has not yet commented on the
00:06:26
accident which reportedly occurred in the
western desert in late 2015 the military
00:06:32
was blamed in the death of 12 civilians
when their tourist convoy was attacked by
00:06:38
mistake. Today the world's top
00:06:45
economies hold
00:06:46
a 2 day summit in Hamburg Germany on pressing
economic and geopolitical issues the
00:06:53
g. 20 meeting will discuss
00:06:55
a range of issues of interest to Africa
including jobs and investment. But tell
00:07:02
someone scart is the head of the Economic
Policy Program at the South Africa
00:07:06
Institute of International Affairs in
Cape Town she spoke with reporter William
00:07:11
Eagle about
00:07:12
a new program supported by the g 20 the
compact with Africa that you think it
00:07:19
can be under the German presidency and
each year the president chooses specific
00:07:24
topic that they want to focus on for that
particular year and Germany has chosen to
00:07:29
focus on Africa and specifically it
has such as on Africa because of the
00:07:35
significant migration crisis that it has
been experiencing and I think 14 and they
00:07:41
the recognition in Germany that to simply
because borders will not solve the
00:07:45
classes they had to be action in Africa I
think shouldn't be to thank the canonical
00:07:50
as an opportunity for people to stay in
Africa. But I see 2 initiatives that have
00:07:55
come out of Germany this year when
it's within the context of the g.
00:07:58
20 which is the contact with Africa an
attempt out of the German Finance Ministry
00:08:03
which is typically the one thing the g 20
and the 2nd one is the Marshall Plan for
00:08:08
Africa which is not so fortunate name
suffered some people refer to it as the local
00:08:13
plan for Africa and this is come out of the
development ministry and said he plans
00:08:19
to focus specifically on the
enabling environment something
00:08:23
a big business environment in African
countries to ensure that they can attract
00:08:27
saying investment and specifically into
infrastructure projects the contact with
00:08:32
Africa has this exclusive focus with the
Marshall Plan also brings in aspects of
00:08:37
peace and security and democracy
and the rule of law which is
00:08:41
a more comprehensive
approach and it's more
00:08:44
a traditional approach of overseas development
assistance and collaboration with
00:08:50
the contact with Africa within the g.
00:08:51
20 context is
00:08:53
a plan that countries have been asked to
sign up to and when I sign up to that
00:08:57
commit themselves to implementing specific
reform measures that will be decided
00:09:02
upon in consultation with the eye if the
World Bank and the African Development
00:09:07
Bank measures does make one think back to
the structural adjustment programs of the
00:09:13
1980s in the 1990 s.
00:09:15
Which had
00:09:16
a mental effect on African countries but
as far as I know and as far as we've seen
00:09:21
there's nothing about privatization of
housing to assets or anything like that
00:09:28
within the context under the g 20
How are these compact or how is
00:09:32
a specific compact with Africa broadly
in the Marshall Plan part of the larger
00:09:39
e.u. Effort to enhance employment
in Africa or course what would be
00:09:43
a most important to the e.u.
00:09:46
Limit migration from Africa absolutely
said that the thinking behind all of these
00:09:51
measures do come I would. From self-interest
on the European laws fast acting
00:09:56
massive social disruption make
00:09:58
a typical nomic impact from the flow of
migrants that have come not only from Syria
00:10:03
but also from from Africa since I
simply foresee that there's been
00:10:07
a lot of thinking around how do you ensure
that people do not migrate to Europe
00:10:12
apart from closing borders how do you
create an environment on the African
00:10:16
continent that the people would be
encouraged to say that there would be
00:10:20
opportunities for them that I can see if
you take those trends on the continent
00:10:24
where you have some Africa not signed up
for example so that is the only African
00:10:30
country that forms part of the g 20 in
effect its own thought of the thinking and
00:10:35
sort of the dharna grouping behind the
compact with Africa from that perspective it
00:10:39
wouldn't be expected to sign up to the
contract but secondly think that Africa is
00:10:44
an interesting position because it is the
thought of of Africa and it would benefit
00:10:49
tremendously from an Africa that develops
some more rapidly finances because
00:10:53
they'll be such
00:10:54
a huge market for their African
products but I thought Africa suffers
00:10:58
a lot from the same impact from my question
on refugees that we're not taking those
00:11:04
accounts off towards South Africa
so that Africa has a 2nd I've
00:11:08
a strong base of interest in these
contacts with enough we imagine
00:11:12
a scenario in which South Africa with the
us to sign up to the contacts and to be
00:11:17
a beneficiary of the Marshall Plan I think
it would find it difficult in recent
00:11:21
years it has to change the face implodes
watch him ethically to ensure that foreign
00:11:26
direct investment to take cognisance
of South Africa through best economic
00:11:31
empowerment policies that wouldn't open
itself up to conditionality from the i.m.f.
00:11:37
And the World Bank that would in any way
limit that policy or whatever it is
00:11:41
ability to implement that policy study
Taber tell someone Scott the head of the
00:11:47
Economic Policy Program South African
Institute of International Affairs she was
00:11:51
speaking with reporter William. Eagle.
00:11:59
Frank police evacuated
nearly 3000 migrants from
00:12:03
a growing makeshift camp in Paris today
the move comes just days before the
00:12:08
government proposes new measures for
asylum seekers and illegal migration the
00:12:14
influx of migrants and refugees has become
00:12:16
a hot political issue not just in France
but throughout Europe reporter Catherine
00:12:22
field is in Paris she spoke to be
00:12:24
a waste to the capital about today's
evacuation and the related issues police moved
00:12:30
in just before Dorn in the northern
Paris suburb where there is actually
00:12:35
a reception center for Refugees the reason
they moved in that was the reception
00:12:39
center actually only holds places for
several 100 but migrant asylum seekers are
00:12:44
just being going there in the hope that
somehow the doors will open and they'll
00:12:48
find places for them over the last
couple of months the numbers have been
00:12:52
increasing by the hundreds almost every
week so police just said they had to move
00:12:58
in because the area was just completely
closed people sleeping on the pavements and
00:13:05
. There's virtually no access to water
sanitation what food they get those
00:13:12
that are given by small local associations
or by people who live in the area that
00:13:17
have been watching these people well shoring
in the summer I hates that and just
00:13:22
feel very sorry for them this is not the
1st time we've seen this Joe this is the
00:13:26
34th operation of its type since 2015 where
police have gone in and removed lodge
00:13:33
numbers of refugees
00:13:34
a migrant just sleeping rough in the hope
that someone will take them and all the
00:13:39
government will lead least just have
00:13:41
a look at their paperwork Catherine any
idea how many migrants and refugees and
00:13:46
your friends every week or so well sir
he's here is saying that there's about 200
00:13:52
arriving. To be honest I see more than that
on the streets of Paris if you just go
00:13:57
and look at this area of northern Paris
Yeah Ok maybe there's an increase about
00:14:02
$200.00 each week but then you go slightly
out of Paris and you find dozens of
00:14:07
little shanty towns that these people just
covering themselves and trying to stay
00:14:13
out of the way of authorities
just trying to get
00:14:15
a bit of peace and quiet you've also got
forget that area in the south of France
00:14:20
alongside the Italian border that's being
closed for some months simply because of
00:14:24
the new influx of migrants so you've got
people turning up there coming over the
00:14:29
hills in the mountains that So to be honest
I think this figure they're coming up
00:14:33
with $200.00 a week is well over
the mark now I understand in
00:14:37
a few days the Ministry of the interior
is going to present some new measures on
00:14:42
the silence seekers and illegal migration
you need so it's about this new proposal
00:14:49
they're going to come up with next week
is really being pushed along by the mayor
00:14:52
of Paris and 2 days ago she said look Paris
can do what ever it can to help these
00:14:56
people but it needs to come from the
government the government is actually at the
00:15:00
moment in
00:15:01
a position where it can do something
because it's summer holidays here and the
00:15:05
schools have all closed so they do have
facilities such as school gymnasiums even
00:15:11
classrooms that are empty that they can
put these migrants into these places go
00:15:17
through their paperwork and least get
them off the streets so that's what we're
00:15:20
looking at but again we're going to get
to the same problem for the French
00:15:24
authorities that is that they're looking
for European solution then looking to the
00:15:28
European neighbors to help out they're not
getting any help but typically when you
00:15:32
look at the countries in Eastern Europe
Poland the visit good countries they don't
00:15:37
want any more migrants they say they're
full and we're now seeing countries such as
00:15:42
Austria the. Really tough measures to make
sure that there are no new migrants so
00:15:46
it's a bit of
00:15:47
a pipe dream if the French government
thinks they're going to be able to get that
00:15:51
help they also don't forget under
00:15:53
a lot of criticism here in
France because the Kell
00:15:56
a jungle the area that we've talked about
before for the last couple of years that
00:16:00
the French government closed down last
year well migrants have started going back
00:16:05
to that Harry again hiding out in the forests
around there the government has been
00:16:10
trying to keep that area clean it hasn't
succeeded and local authorities have now
00:16:16
given then after many months and said Well
Ok we will let some of the local N.G.O.s
00:16:21
set up showers and drinking stations up
there so it's going to be difficult for the
00:16:26
government because just look at the figures
of how many people already Ving we've
00:16:30
had what $101.00 sounds and migrants come
across the sea to Western Europe so far
00:16:36
this year it's
00:16:37
a huge issue and France just will not be
able to deal with it themselves on top of
00:16:44
that these are the guys who have come back
00:16:47
a lot of the Afghanis that I talked to in
the last couple of days who were rounded
00:16:51
up this morning this is the 2nd
time in Europe they come here
00:16:54
a couple of years ago being sent back to
Afghanistan and they decided well their
00:16:59
life was in danger in Afghanistan they
couldn't live even in Kabul so they actually
00:17:04
come back to Europe not just to get
00:17:06
a sauna but just to be somewhere
that might be on the side of
00:17:09
a para street but at least they are safe
That's reporter Catherine field from Paris
00:17:14
she spoke to be always
Joe Di Caprio at the g.
00:17:18
20 summit leaders would consider
a proposal to impose u.s.
00:17:22
Sanctions against those smiling and smuggling
migrants to Europe European Council
00:17:27
president Donald Tusk says his proposal
includes freezing assets and imposing
00:17:32
travel bans he says human smuggling is an
organized crime that generated more than
00:17:39
one and
00:17:39
a have $1000000000.00 for smugglers in Libya.
On last year Libya is the main departure
00:17:46
point for migrants trying to reach Europe
in related news former Italian premier
00:17:52
much to your end he says
Italy should accept only
00:17:55
a fixed number of refugees currently
it receives most of those crossing the
00:18:00
Mediterranean Renzi says Italy should
consider not paying its due to the e.u.
00:18:06
If it does not get more help
to deal with the crisis.
00:18:16
19 past the hour you were listening to
Africa news tonight on the boys of America
00:18:22
While much attention in Africa is paid
to diseases such as malaria and HIV Aids
00:18:28
there's another rapidly growing health
threat new research warrants of the human
00:18:34
and financial impact that diabetes and
obesity will have on the continent diabetes
00:18:41
causes blood sugar levels to be too high
left untreated it could cause blindness
00:18:47
kidney failure heart attacks and stroke
the Lancet medical journal says the
00:18:52
financial cost of diabetes in Africa
could double to $60000000000.00
00:18:57
a year or over the next 13 years if he
reports this includes the cost of medication
00:19:04
hospital admissions and loss of productivity
as workers fall ill or die from the
00:19:10
disease bts mostly has been
00:19:13
a Western disease but no more the
Lancet says Type 2 diabetes in Africa
00:19:20
has followed that arise of the middle class
who can spend more money on junk food
00:19:25
that's brought
00:19:26
a sharp rise of you know be speedball
on the continent you know addition more
00:19:31
people have said Terry lifestyles currently
just one in 10 Africans who have
00:19:36
diabetes received the necessary medication
and May and many don't even realize it.
00:19:43
They have the disease.
00:19:50
Nearly 20 n g O's have sent
00:19:53
a joint staff statement to the Tanzanian
government calling on it to stop
00:19:58
threatening rights groups of people reports
Amnesty International Human Rights
00:20:04
Watch and others say the government should
and its hostile rhetoric against those
00:20:10
come painting for gay rights and others
helping teenage mothers get an education
00:20:16
last month Tanzanian president John Mica
foully said girls who became pregnant
00:20:22
should be barred from school the government
has threatened to deregister N.G.O.s
00:20:28
that are helping girls that he turned to
school after pregnancy my Got food he also
00:20:33
said foreigners campaigning for gay rights
would be arrested and deported even if
00:20:39
it meant losing international aid.
00:20:47
Boko Haram has lost as much as 70 percent
of its war equipment and fighters That's
00:20:54
the assessment of Defense officials from
the 5 countries involved and the joint
00:20:59
task force fighting the militants but the
officials who gathered in Cameroon this
00:21:04
week to discuss the war effort admit
their own troops face challenges mostly
00:21:10
involving funding Moki Edwin kens
Eka has the story from your own day
00:21:16
Nigeria Cameroon Chad. Contribute
00:21:22
7000 suit that's make up the multinational
joint task force bustling book.
00:21:31
Defense officials from the 5 countries
said this week that economic challenges
00:21:38
caused by the global slump in commodity
prices I taking it tore on the war effort
00:21:45
they said it has become difficult to mount
attacks on Boko Haram locations as they
00:21:51
lack the resources to keep adequate standby
troops stationed at the front here

on the Lake Chad Basin Commission
00:22:43
created
00:22:43
a regional force in 2015 with an
anticipated budget of 700 $1000000.00
00:22:51
But the defense officials said less than
50 percent of the promised money has been
00:22:57
delivered in June Cameroon arrested
$30.00 of its soldiers in the task
00:23:04
force after they protested of
00:23:06

enough this week the defense minister's
00:23:13
resolved that each country will negotiate
salary agreements with their respective

militaries while the regional force will
provide additional weapons to the troops.
00:23:25
They joint task force has succeeded in
taking much of the territory book around

success has brought fresh challenges

said General I met Mohammad who is in
charge of training and oppressions at the

Nigerian Defense headquarters they have
been degraded substation but because of
00:23:50
that they have now broken into
00:23:52

more difficult to harness our resources
00:23:57
to deal with them decisively the defense
said factions that coordination I'm not

For Vo in me yeah I won't be.
00:24:29
In the d.r.
00:24:30
C 8 soldiers have been sentenced for the
deaths of civilians and because I probably
00:24:34
last year 2 soldiers were sentenced to 20
years in prison while 3 others received
00:24:40
15 year sentences others are deceived
shorter prison terms the soldiers went on
00:24:46
trial after
00:24:46
a video surfaced of Congolese troops
walking among the bodies of at least 20
00:24:51
civilians the government is battling
a local militia in cuz site the u.n.
00:24:56
And others say as many as 3000 people have
been killed in the region and more than
00:25:01
1000000 displaced.
00:25:12
And no more minutes Curt's
and large earrings for
00:25:16
a female civil servants in Uganda
main staff are now at a court to wear
00:25:21
a jacket and a tie the Ugandan
government instituted
00:25:24
a new dress code for public workers this
week and it continues to anger some people
00:25:30
Toumani reports from Kampala. Women
activists in Uganda have criticized the new
00:25:36
dress code for civil servants as
00:25:38
a distraction from the real issues in the
country Perry tour is executive director
00:25:44
of Women's Democracy Network is it that
men do not have in this type of control
00:25:50
when the girl is just as it in those images
calling for your attention let us focus
00:25:55
on the real issues that you
governors are grappling with
00:25:58
a 5th of the resources that inefficiency
in service delivery system to zoom in
00:26:04
except this city needs that service as the
Ministry of Public Service issued the
00:26:11
directive on decent dressing Tuesday it
prohibits female staff from wearing tight
00:26:15
clothing open toed shoes and scouts all
dresses above the knees bright colored nail
00:26:21
polish Hey extensions exaggerated makeup
on Shine the earrings are also on the
00:26:26
bundle least the directive didn't spare men
either all male offices are required to
00:26:31
dress in neat Dr houses but not ones that
are tight fitting and only closed tall
00:26:37
black and brown shoes should be
want to the office along with
00:26:41
a jacket and tie I don't wonder is the humor
of the ministry of public service she
00:26:47
defends the new measures
people in Uganda have
00:26:50
a perception of what the public office to
should look like and this is the image we
00:26:54
are trying to protect and preserve we are
saying I'm not above the knee and for one
00:27:00
reason above the knee you know want to to
move into the most of them don't want to
00:27:04
sexual harassment because when you see
it you're exposing us size which is not
00:27:08
generally accepted and it's come district
of us from rights groups say the previous
00:27:14
$10.00 to $10.00 public order requiring
dress to be neat and practical for one's
00:27:19
job was sufficient Ugandans have penned
opinion pieces in local media Guinness the
00:27:24
dress code with one lawyer writing that
rights aren't taken away overnight they're
00:27:29
taken away in small beats the state
owned newspaper pup. At least it's
00:27:34
a good ticket Wednesday 3 civil servants
00:27:36
a man and 2 women not admitting to the new
dress good viewing caught up with one
00:27:41
public Waka who declined to give her name
Yeah I think my bad days cunt distract
00:27:46
someone so the government should not discuss
about that the penalties would use the
00:27:51
being the new dress code on the direct 100
simply fade cases would be too fide for
00:27:56
the prominence of the Ministry of

another Ethiopian I'm on whoa today
won the men's 1500 meters race in 3
00:31:41
minutes and 32.20 seconds and
the 3rd Ethiopian victory
00:31:48
came in the women's mile
race against De Bubba had
00:31:53
a winning time of just over 4
minutes and 16 seconds and here are
00:31:59
a few fun facts about 26

00:32:38
2000 meters 3000 meters and
5000 meters as well as the
00:32:45

Like Wade Van Niekerk hasta be
00:32:52
considered one of the gold
medal favorites at the i.w.a.
00:32:56
F World Championships in London which began
August 4th another strong contender for

tennis player Bethany Maddox sands
is out of Wimbledon after suffering
00:35:09
a horrific knee injury in her 2nd round
match against Romania's Sorana curse Gio
00:35:16
The 32 year old Matic Sands was
attacking the net and looking to play
00:35:22
a volley when her right knee buckled and
she collapsed to the court screaming out
00:35:28
in pain as she asked for
help paramedics gave her
00:35:32
a lengthy tree. Meant including oxygen
but her screams could still be heard on
00:35:38
nearby courts Mattick Sands was
taken away on a stretcher to
00:35:43
a local hospital with what Wimbledon
officials described as an acute Mian jury
00:35:50
Mattick San suffered
00:35:52
a torn ligament in the same knee
4 years ago her opponents Soran
00:35:58
a curse Jia reacted to the gruesome
injury at the post match news conference
00:36:04
at Crystal there and then I saw the knee
and I've never seen anything like this in
00:36:09
my life and if that is my friend you know
and we get along so well and she's an
00:36:12
unlevel the girl and team you don't even
want this to happen to her or stay in any
00:36:18
of it they are friends and also I think
that I don't know their sports where you
00:36:24
see something's happening and you see that
straight away the head if you know like
00:36:28
on the football evokes or like the others
you know it straight away which I mean
00:36:33
it's. It took
00:36:34
a while so of course you wonder why
what happened if it was hard to shoe or
00:36:39
something like this yes of course Saran
00:36:41
a curse Jia another professional tennis
player sent Bethany Matic sans well wishes
00:36:47
on social media Kirstie
00:36:50
a tweeted and I quote heartbroken for what
happened to Bethany Maddox sands I love
00:36:57
you girl you are strong you will get
through it my thoughts are with you Beth
00:37:03
Bethany Matic sands is known primarily as
00:37:06
a double specialist and professional
tennis she an American Jack Sock won
00:37:12
a gold medal in mixed doubles at last year's
Rio Olympics Bethanie Matic Sands has
00:37:18
also won 5 grand slam titles in
women's doubles and 2 more in
00:37:25

Prensa pugilist sticks nom de Hollywood
Mo wait Good evening nominee
00:37:38
and it could have been sunny August
26th in Las Vegas the money man Floyd
00:37:44
Mayweather Jr will go up against the
Irish mixed martial artist Conor
00:37:50
McGregor both fighters release training
videos nom de your thoughts on the videos
00:37:58
sunny everybody looks
good when you heat in
00:38:01
a bag. You can go down to your garage
and install it back get your boxing
00:38:08
gloves put it near
00:38:09
a nest Oh wait you look like humans.
Because you know why because
00:38:14
a bag or not he back. As
00:38:19
a secret to everybody looking good in that
well I've seen my fried money meal it
00:38:24
has
00:38:24
a video what do you expect prized hands
he's ready to go and come August
00:38:31
26th he will do its thing did you think
he has lost any speed not I don't I mean
00:38:37
this man is always in shape
you know and he's yet to take
00:38:41
a beating from any fight and he's the best
defensive fight of all for all time out
00:38:46
say and kind of mind Grego may not even you
know the mc how my song can touch days
00:38:52
.
00:39:06
And nights you can touch and. Not be what
about McGregor What are some of your
00:39:13
takeaways from his video. It was
00:39:17
a good video. Should mean that. Point
he's got power remember Sonny he's
00:39:24
out boyz
00:39:24
a lefty and Mila diaspora. I'm fighting the
lefties but looking at that video right
00:39:30
there may what is not going to stand then
wait for him to do anything he can be in
00:39:35
a barn fight seal may want to knock him out
the video he really just shows or that
00:39:40
he has no business fighting flight
me woulda August 26th but he has
00:39:44
a business I'm going
to the bank. And Nobby
00:39:51
in terms of going to the bank I mean
there is reports that Mayweather could
00:39:56
possibly exceed what he made against Manny
Pac you know any latest updates on the
00:40:01
financial front come and sunny thing in the
history of bucks and we'll never never
00:40:07
see anybody like Floyd main would remember
this right is going to make more than
00:40:11
$600000000.00 sunny and not only that
Friday is that cool promoters Sunny
00:40:18
he gets his gun $9450000000.00 on the front
and then on the back end when Tippit of
00:40:23
the bread is broken he will pick up I
don't know $75.00 to $100000000.00.
00:40:30
Tell me does not crazy people bank. Is
00:40:36
a great fight though and this will clearly
be the biggest payday of McGregor's
00:40:41
career my great guy's got $2100000000.00
man the last biggest payday for him was
00:40:47
$5000000.00 so you go make
the calculation on the.
00:40:53
Knobby they're still talk of Anthony
Joshua and blot Amir Klitschko having
00:40:58
a rematch What's the latest
there is yet to treat guys
00:41:02
a rematch clause but he made it
clear to the promoter Duff a.j.
00:41:05
That he will not go back to the u.k.
00:41:08
For remind each which means forget about
in $1000.00 out of Wembley before any away
00:41:14
out in the u.k.
00:41:15
What we're looking at now and I mentioned
in Nigeria mentioning Dubai mentioning
00:41:20
Las Vegas what do you think is the likely
choice Nandi is not going to be tough in
00:41:26
Lagos. Just stadium it's going to be at the
moment I ring in Las Vegas take that to
00:41:32
the bank sonny. When we see it at the end
of 2017 Klitschko better make up his
00:41:38
mind quickly because the colander for 27000
you know he's loaded you've got 2 big
00:41:44
ones in the summer triple g.
00:41:46
Cano my Greg and me. Then you see have
00:41:50
a dram Broun on all of the colonized load
if you going to do it but the good thing
00:41:55
about Las Vegas and team will be the arena
it's in the stadium and it's going to
00:42:00
sell out quick people would come from ever
imagine the fight fans coming in from
00:42:04
the u.k.
00:42:05
They would ring do it spend money so it may
not be in October I would say more like
00:42:10
November December gives them enough time
to do the promotions and it's going to be
00:42:15
a good one Andre Ward
recently stops or de Kovel in
00:42:20
a rematch like Packie Al Hornet was
controversial nom de Kovel of camp saying Ward
00:42:26
was throwing low blows throughout the
fight including at the end your thoughts.
00:42:33
Sunny crush I was just
00:42:35
a big talking sorry loser he lost that
fight he wasn't able to make adjustments
00:42:41
from the 1st fight this is
00:42:43
a clear case of effective body
punching by and reward this is
00:42:47
a guy that we believe can't even
break an egg. Suddenly knocks out
00:42:52
a punch and stops
00:42:53
a punch but he was effective with the
body shots and not body shots took
00:42:57
a lot out of cover left go live now blaming
the referee for the low blow was not
00:43:02
global it's what we call our bottom line
in the fight game if you look at the fire
00:43:06
closely coverlet was looking for an excuse
to bail out because you know I mean he
00:43:11
was being pounded and he didn't expect
it all the trash talk he said before the
00:43:16
fight like pillow fist that punch he called
underwater call him all kinds of name
00:43:20
but he couldn't back it up so now he's
blaming the referees blaming this person I
00:43:25
think it's time for cover left to just
go away I'll move up in weight because 2
00:43:29
fights we're not going to take
00:43:31
a rematch no rematch. Thanks Nom de

00:48:10
Friday I think it was
00:48:11
a wise idea for him to
change is named. What's
00:48:17
trending out there in the sports
world well I know you mentioned
00:48:21
a little bit earlier this this tragedy at
at Wimbledon Bethany Matic Sands who took
00:48:27
a very bad spit spill very distressing
scenes Well lots of people tweeting out
00:48:32
their support for their well wishes people
from you know plain old ordinary fans to
00:48:38
really some legendary tennis figures
Martina Navratilova herself and one time I
00:48:43
think singles winner tweeted out I'm just
devastated about Bethany Maddox and and
00:48:48
her injury we're all behind you hoping
for the best lots of love. Chris Everett
00:48:54
also herself something of
00:48:56
a legend I think added she she tweeted out
going over the day and remembering a b.
00:49:02
Matic that's her Twitter handle in my
thoughts and prayers wishing this very
00:49:07
special lady a speedy
recovery here's a tweet from
00:49:10
a fan who calls him or herself sport not
distressing scenes in the magic sands
00:49:17
match today even more
distressing than e.s.p.n.
00:49:20
Airing the tape with the audio and
as we may have heard she was in
00:49:25
a dream and she was screaming it was clearly
and her opponent ran over and nobody
00:49:30
seemed to know what to
do it was just it. Just
00:49:33
a horrible scene So anyway that's that's
one thing that's certainly getting
00:49:36
a lot of attention there on Twitter today
there's another story that's getting
00:49:41
a lot of attention on Twitter we
mentioned we perhaps get a bit of
00:49:45
a send up for this yesterday we
were talking about the n.b.a.
00:49:49
Free agency and players are now sort of
shopping themselves around seeing the best
00:49:54
deals that they can get well Tim Hardaway
Jr who was originally drafted by the New
00:50:00
York Knicks back in 2013 although it may
be 14 I may have those numbers wrong Ok he
00:50:06
was originally drafted by them they let
him go he went off to another team
00:50:13
and now the Knicks have resigned him
Tim Hardaway Tim Hardaway Jr now has
00:50:20
a deal with the New York Knicks
for $71000000.00. Over 4 years
00:50:26
71000000 dollars So for 4 years to strike
I'm still trying to let that sink in and
00:50:32
a lot of people on Twitter are trying to
let that sink in as to it doesn't seem to
00:50:36
be helping very much Here's here's
just incident number of examples Chris
00:50:42
Zab a-D. Tweets out I don't
think I'm ready to live in
00:50:46
a world where Tim Hardaway Jr is
71000000 dollars over 4 years.
00:50:52
Kristen 34 has this to say good morning to
everybody except Knicks fans justifying
00:50:58
their offer sheet to Tim Hardaway Jr It's
00:51:01
a typically typically
stupid Knicks move not
00:51:04
a big name in there I guess or not I'm not
00:51:06
a fan at least of this deal that's been
offered one more the next really just gave
00:51:11
Tim Hardaway Jr an amount of money 29 other
teams wouldn't offer him even if the
00:51:17
number denomination. Star was in
yen. You know Tim Hardaway Jr.
00:51:25
You know interesting player but you know
has really not been I mean if you're
00:51:29
thinking players not a not
00:51:31
a superstar no. And like especially this
last year I mean I think he was averaging
00:51:37
maybe 14 points a game
I mean just you know
00:51:40
a good player but wow Anyway it's minus
not to argue why well Doug we're about
00:51:46
a week into cycling's premier of that what's
the latest from France Yes indeed well
00:51:52
Marcel Kittel the German giant has won his
3rd stage it was the 7th stage today he
00:51:58
won his 3rd stage today in
00:52:00
a photo finish it couldn't have gotten much
closer I mean I've seen race horses you
00:52:06
know snout to snout at that line before
I've never really quite seen it at the but
00:52:10
at the they have photo finishes there he
won that gives him the green jersey. And
00:52:16
which means he's the points leader Chris
Froome still has the yellow yellow jersey
00:52:19
but I just wanted to mention
one player that's not getting
00:52:22
a lot of attention but he is in his
home nation it's Tom. Gourmet he's one
00:52:29
of 5 riders from Africa and the very 1st
ever Ethiopian rider right in the Tour
00:52:36
de France and turned pro
not expecting necessarily
00:52:39
a lot from him this year but interesting
to follow his his course this year and
00:52:45
interesting to follow the spread of cycling
you know outside of perhaps just South
00:52:49
Africa in the in Africa and speaking of
Africa the overall leader Froome I believe
00:52:55
was born in Nairobi he was
he was his he does have a
00:53:00
a international pedigree although he lives
on the Isle of Man now which makes him
00:53:06
a Breton and as they call them those who
live on the Isle of Man they're called
00:53:11
Manx man I just have one last quick
story this very short not necessarily
00:53:15
a social media story but it
turns out a new day it was
00:53:20
a professional runner from
Kenya was practicing at
00:53:22
a nature trail in Maine where he lives
and he was charged at by 2 black bears
00:53:30
he couldn't go in the water because he said
I know I can't swim. He said I couldn't
00:53:33
climb up a tree because bears can
climb trees so he just ran into
00:53:37
a vacant house and he was just able by
the skin of his teeth quick thinking and
00:53:43
didn't do it so good luck
to him Thank you Doug v.
00:53:46
Always Doug Bernard And that wraps up the
July 7th edition of the sunny side of

20 summit in Hamburg Germany Trump told
reporters that Friday's talks got off to
00:59:49

00:59:55
for you to go through for the world and be

a little. Not. Accurately me but
I'm delighted to be able to

Mr Putin's interpreter now hear from Mr

01:00:18
various day I think it's going very

01:00:24
a doubt. If you. Look forward to
01:00:29
a lot of good. Things
at work for. Everybody.
01:00:37
There it's unclear if that congenial tone
will last after they get into some thorny
01:00:42
issues that have put the u.s.
01:00:44
And Russia at odds such as the Russian
meddling in the u.s. Presidential.
00:00:03
Everybody. Meeting on
the sidelines of the g.
00:00:07
20 summit in Hamburg Germany Trump and
Russian President Putin discuss various
00:00:13
things in the to suppose future developments
that are beneficial to both countries
00:00:17
Putin said he was delighted to meet Trump
it's unclear if that can general tone
00:00:21
will last after they get into some
issues that have put the u.s.
00:00:25
And Russia at odds including possibly
the Russian meddling in the u.s.
00:00:29
Election and Moscow's backing of the Syrian
regime and its encroachments on Ukraine
00:00:34
Egyptian officials say a suicide
car bomber has attacked
00:00:38
a military checkpoint in northern Sinai
killing 10 soldiers there has been no claim
00:00:42
of responsibility so far for Friday's
blast Egypt has been battling an Islamic
00:00:48
state insurgency sense 2013 on the military
ousted as long as President Mohamed
00:00:53
Morsi at the mass protests
leaders from the u.s.
00:00:57
South Korea and Japan agreed Friday to
urge the United Nations to speed up the
00:01:02
implementation of sanctions against North
Korea following the country's July 4th
00:01:07
intercontinental Melissa missile launch
the leaders also reaffirmed their
00:01:12
commitment to denuclearize North Korea and
they called on nations bordering North
00:01:17
Korea to help convince North Korea to stop
threatening other countries and halt its
00:01:21
ballistic missile program this is v.o.a.
00:01:24
News on Friday North Korean
state television broadcast
00:01:29
a statement declaring that beyond young
develop the intercontinental ballistic
00:01:33
missile like the one launched early this
week to defend itself against threats from
00:01:38
the u.s.
00:01:39
Speaking alongside Poland's president on
Thursday and Wausau present Trump labeled
00:01:44
North Korea's behavior
00:01:45
a threat and promise to confront it not
only must we secure our nations from the
00:01:50
threat of terrorism but we must also
confront the threat from North Korea and
00:01:57
that's what is
00:01:57
a safe threat. And we will confront
it very strongly president did and I
00:02:04
call on all nations to confront this level
of threat and publicly demonstrate to
00:02:10
North Korea that there are consequences for
their very very bad behavior Trump also
00:02:16
said he is not one to draw
00:02:18
a red lines or talk about his plans but
that he has some pretty severe things in
00:02:23
mind as it pertains to North Korea but
he did not elaborate street violence and
00:02:28
gang shootings on the rise in many big
cities around the world one of those cities
00:02:33
Rio de Janeiro Brazil which sees an
average of 15 gun battles daily and this
00:02:39
bystanders often caught in the crossfire
but people in Rio can now avoid street
00:02:44
violence thanks to several smartphone
applications get more in the story from
00:02:48
v.o.a. Islamica hope the latest app
known as short for where there is
00:02:53
a shootout in Portuguese was developed by
00:02:55
a group of volunteers the
app shows uses where
00:02:59
a shooting has occurred so they can avoid
the area it also sends alerts Instagram
00:03:04
Twitter Facebook and other social media
the group says there alerts reach nearly
00:03:09
3000000 people almost half the population
of Rio de Janeiro violent crime has risen
00:03:14
by 11 percent in the 1st half of this year
compared to the same period last year
00:03:19
more than 2300 people were killed in
the 1st 5 months of 2017 details about
00:03:25
shootouts location injuries fatalities and
other vital information are sourced by
00:03:30
users the app also fills us that this
tickle void since the city does not compile
00:03:34
date on shootouts in order to avoid false
alarms both programs appeared to strict
00:03:40
operating standards it's
00:03:42
a hope of viewing news Washington
Authorities say 28 and mates were killed in
00:03:46
a fight between rival gangs in
00:03:48
a state prison in the Mexican Pacific
resort to Acapulco security officials were
00:03:53
able to regain control of that prison
late in the day on Thursday and u.n.
00:03:58
Sponsored talks since May.
In the name but ending
00:04:00
a stalemate that has kept the honor of
Cyprus divided for more than 4 decades have
00:04:05
ended with an agreement and 2 Americans one
span you know the 1st casualties of the
00:04:10
opening of the running of the bulls in
Spain I'm Michael Brown reporting here in
00:04:15
Washington. That's the
latest world news from b
00:04:21
o
00:04:22
a. This is Africa news tonight on The
00:04:28
Voice of America. Good evening and
welcome welcome to Africa news
00:04:35
tonight from the English to Africa Service
of the Voice of America your source for
00:04:39
Pan Africa News and World developments I
mean he's really been Washington coming up
00:04:45
on African news tonight out
of the long jump it has been
00:04:48
a meeting by the hundreds Oh my every week
to truly know if they had been because
00:04:56
the area would just completely call Bell
people sleeping on the pavement and
00:05:02
thereby thankfully no way at all to annotation
and that's reporter Catherine field
00:05:08
in Paris explaining why police
evacuated about 3000 migrants from
00:05:13
a makeshift camp details coming up also 26
soldiers have been killed or wounded in
00:05:20
an attack by ISIS militants in Egypt's
Sinai region and that range if issues of
00:05:26
interest to Africa including jobs and
investment will be discussed at the g.
00:05:32
20 summit in Hamburg Germany will have these
stories and lots more ahead on African
00:05:37
lose tonight. Our top story it was
00:05:44
a violent today in the Sinai Egypt the
military reports 26 soldiers have been
00:05:50
killed or wounded in an attack by ISIS
militants the attack was launched on
00:05:55
a checkpoint in the city of in North Sinai
on the bow. Order with the Gaza Strip
00:06:01
the military claims to have killed at least
40 of the attackers militants launch
00:06:06
frequent attacks against soldiers and police
in the Sinai killing hundreds over the
00:06:10
past several years also the Associated
Press reports 3 Egyptian civilian
00:06:16
construction workers were reportedly
killed this week when military aircraft
00:06:21
mistakenly targeted their vehicle the
military has not yet commented on the
00:06:26
accident which reportedly occurred in the
western desert in late 2015 the military
00:06:32
was blamed in the death of 12 civilians
when their tourist convoy was attacked by
00:06:38
mistake. Today the world's top
00:06:45
economies hold
00:06:46
a 2 day summit in Hamburg Germany on pressing
economic and geopolitical issues the
00:06:53
g. 20 meeting will discuss
00:06:55
a range of issues of interest to Africa
including jobs and investment. But tell
00:07:02
someone scart is the head of the Economic
Policy Program at the South Africa
00:07:06
Institute of International Affairs in
Cape Town she spoke with reporter William
00:07:11
Eagle about
00:07:12
a new program supported by the g 20 the
compact with Africa that you think it
00:07:19
can be under the German presidency and
each year the president chooses specific
00:07:24
topic that they want to focus on for that
particular year and Germany has chosen to
00:07:29
focus on Africa and specifically it
has such as on Africa because of the
00:07:35
significant migration crisis that it has
been experiencing and I think 14 and they
00:07:41
the recognition in Germany that to simply
because borders will not solve the
00:07:45
classes they had to be action in Africa I
think shouldn't be to thank the canonical
00:07:50
as an opportunity for people to stay in
Africa. But I see 2 initiatives that have
00:07:55
come out of Germany this year when
it's within the context of the g.
00:07:58
20 which is the contact with Africa an
attempt out of the German Finance Ministry
00:08:03
which is typically the one thing the g 20
and the 2nd one is the Marshall Plan for
00:08:08
Africa which is not so fortunate name
suffered some people refer to it as the local
00:08:13
plan for Africa and this is come out of the
development ministry and said he plans
00:08:19
to focus specifically on the
enabling environment something
00:08:23
a big business environment in African
countries to ensure that they can attract
00:08:27
saying investment and specifically into
infrastructure projects the contact with
00:08:32
Africa has this exclusive focus with the
Marshall Plan also brings in aspects of
00:08:37
peace and security and democracy
and the rule of law which is
00:08:41
a more comprehensive
approach and it's more
00:08:44
a traditional approach of overseas development
assistance and collaboration with
00:08:50
the contact with Africa within the g.
00:08:51
20 context is
00:08:53
a plan that countries have been asked to
sign up to and when I sign up to that
00:08:57
commit themselves to implementing specific
reform measures that will be decided
00:09:02
upon in consultation with the eye if the
World Bank and the African Development
00:09:07
Bank measures does make one think back to
the structural adjustment programs of the
00:09:13
1980s in the 1990 s.
00:09:15
Which had
00:09:16
a mental effect on African countries but
as far as I know and as far as we've seen
00:09:21
there's nothing about privatization of
housing to assets or anything like that
00:09:28
within the context under the g 20
How are these compact or how is
00:09:32
a specific compact with Africa broadly
in the Marshall Plan part of the larger
00:09:39
e.u. Effort to enhance employment
in Africa or course what would be
00:09:43
a most important to the e.u.
00:09:46
Limit migration from Africa absolutely
said that the thinking behind all of these
00:09:51
measures do come I would. From self-interest
on the European laws fast acting
00:09:56
massive social disruption make
00:09:58
a typical nomic impact from the flow of
migrants that have come not only from Syria
00:10:03
but also from from Africa since I
simply foresee that there's been
00:10:07
a lot of thinking around how do you ensure
that people do not migrate to Europe
00:10:12
apart from closing borders how do you
create an environment on the African
00:10:16
continent that the people would be
encouraged to say that there would be
00:10:20
opportunities for them that I can see if
you take those trends on the continent
00:10:24
where you have some Africa not signed up
for example so that is the only African
00:10:30
country that forms part of the g 20 in
effect its own thought of the thinking and
00:10:35
sort of the dharna grouping behind the
compact with Africa from that perspective it
00:10:39
wouldn't be expected to sign up to the
contract but secondly think that Africa is
00:10:44
an interesting position because it is the
thought of of Africa and it would benefit
00:10:49
tremendously from an Africa that develops
some more rapidly finances because
00:10:53
they'll be such
00:10:54
a huge market for their African
products but I thought Africa suffers
00:10:58
a lot from the same impact from my question
on refugees that we're not taking those
00:11:04
accounts off towards South Africa
so that Africa has a 2nd I've
00:11:08
a strong base of interest in these
contacts with enough we imagine
00:11:12
a scenario in which South Africa with the
us to sign up to the contacts and to be
00:11:17
a beneficiary of the Marshall Plan I think
it would find it difficult in recent
00:11:21
years it has to change the face implodes
watch him ethically to ensure that foreign
00:11:26
direct investment to take cognisance
of South Africa through best economic
00:11:31
empowerment policies that wouldn't open
itself up to conditionality from the i.m.f.
00:11:37
And the World Bank that would in any way
limit that policy or whatever it is
00:11:41
ability to implement that policy study
Taber tell someone Scott the head of the
00:11:47
Economic Policy Program South African
Institute of International Affairs she was
00:11:51
speaking with reporter William. Eagle.
00:11:59
Frank police evacuated
nearly 3000 migrants from
00:12:03
a growing makeshift camp in Paris today
the move comes just days before the
00:12:08
government proposes new measures for
asylum seekers and illegal migration the
00:12:14
influx of migrants and refugees has become
00:12:16
a hot political issue not just in France
but throughout Europe reporter Catherine
00:12:22
field is in Paris she spoke to be
00:12:24
a waste to the capital about today's
evacuation and the related issues police moved
00:12:30
in just before Dorn in the northern
Paris suburb where there is actually
00:12:35
a reception center for Refugees the reason
they moved in that was the reception
00:12:39
center actually only holds places for
several 100 but migrant asylum seekers are
00:12:44
just being going there in the hope that
somehow the doors will open and they'll
00:12:48
find places for them over the last
couple of months the numbers have been
00:12:52
increasing by the hundreds almost every
week so police just said they had to move
00:12:58
in because the area was just completely
closed people sleeping on the pavements and
00:13:05
. There's virtually no access to water
sanitation what food they get those
00:13:12
that are given by small local associations
or by people who live in the area that
00:13:17
have been watching these people well shoring
in the summer I hates that and just
00:13:22
feel very sorry for them this is not the
1st time we've seen this Joe this is the
00:13:26
34th operation of its type since 2015 where
police have gone in and removed lodge
00:13:33
numbers of refugees
00:13:34
a migrant just sleeping rough in the hope
that someone will take them and all the
00:13:39
government will lead least just have
00:13:41
a look at their paperwork Catherine any
idea how many migrants and refugees and
00:13:46
your friends every week or so well sir
he's here is saying that there's about 200
00:13:52
arriving. To be honest I see more than that
on the streets of Paris if you just go
00:13:57
and look at this area of northern Paris
Yeah Ok maybe there's an increase about
00:14:02
$200.00 each week but then you go slightly
out of Paris and you find dozens of
00:14:07
little shanty towns that these people just
covering themselves and trying to stay
00:14:13
out of the way of authorities
just trying to get
00:14:15
a bit of peace and quiet you've also got
forget that area in the south of France
00:14:20
alongside the Italian border that's being
closed for some months simply because of
00:14:24
the new influx of migrants so you've got
people turning up there coming over the
00:14:29
hills in the mountains that So to be honest
I think this figure they're coming up
00:14:33
with $200.00 a week is well over
the mark now I understand in
00:14:37
a few days the Ministry of the interior
is going to present some new measures on
00:14:42
the silence seekers and illegal migration
you need so it's about this new proposal
00:14:49
they're going to come up with next week
is really being pushed along by the mayor
00:14:52
of Paris and 2 days ago she said look Paris
can do what ever it can to help these
00:14:56
people but it needs to come from the
government the government is actually at the
00:15:00
moment in
00:15:01
a position where it can do something
because it's summer holidays here and the
00:15:05
schools have all closed so they do have
facilities such as school gymnasiums even
00:15:11
classrooms that are empty that they can
put these migrants into these places go
00:15:17
through their paperwork and least get
them off the streets so that's what we're
00:15:20
looking at but again we're going to get
to the same problem for the French
00:15:24
authorities that is that they're looking
for European solution then looking to the
00:15:28
European neighbors to help out they're not
getting any help but typically when you
00:15:32
look at the countries in Eastern Europe
Poland the visit good countries they don't
00:15:37
want any more migrants they say they're
full and we're now seeing countries such as
00:15:42
Austria the. Really tough measures to make
sure that there are no new migrants so
00:15:46
it's a bit of
00:15:47
a pipe dream if the French government
thinks they're going to be able to get that
00:15:51
help they also don't forget under
00:15:53
a lot of criticism here in
France because the Kell
00:15:56
a jungle the area that we've talked about
before for the last couple of years that
00:16:00
the French government closed down last
year well migrants have started going back
00:16:05
to that Harry again hiding out in the forests
around there the government has been
00:16:10
trying to keep that area clean it hasn't
succeeded and local authorities have now
00:16:16
given then after many months and said Well
Ok we will let some of the local N.G.O.s
00:16:21
set up showers and drinking stations up
there so it's going to be difficult for the
00:16:26
government because just look at the figures
of how many people already Ving we've
00:16:30
had what $101.00 sounds and migrants come
across the sea to Western Europe so far
00:16:36
this year it's
00:16:37
a huge issue and France just will not be
able to deal with it themselves on top of
00:16:44
that these are the guys who have come back
00:16:47
a lot of the Afghanis that I talked to in
the last couple of days who were rounded
00:16:51
up this morning this is the 2nd
time in Europe they come here
00:16:54
a couple of years ago being sent back to
Afghanistan and they decided well their
00:16:59
life was in danger in Afghanistan they
couldn't live even in Kabul so they actually
00:17:04
come back to Europe not just to get
00:17:06
a sauna but just to be somewhere
that might be on the side of
00:17:09
a para street but at least they are safe
That's reporter Catherine field from Paris

the Lancet medical journal says the

financial cost of diabetes in Africa
could double to $60000000000.00

has threatened to deregister N.G.O.s
00:20:28
that are helping girls that he turned to
school after pregnancy my Got food he also
00:20:33
said foreigners campaigning for gay rights
would be arrested and deported even if
00:20:39
it meant losing international aid.
00:20:47
Boko Haram has lost as much as 70 percent
of its war equipment and fighters That's
00:20:54
the assessment of Defense officials from
the 5 countries involved and the joint
00:20:59
task force fighting the militants but the
officials who gathered in Cameroon this
00:21:04
week to discuss the war effort admit
their own troops face challenges mostly

involving funding Moki Edwin kens

00:21:31
Defense officials from the 5 countries
said this week that economic challenges
00:21:38
caused by the global slump in commodity
prices I taking it tore on the war effort
00:21:45
they said it has become difficult to mount
attacks on Boko Haram locations as they
00:21:51
lack the resources to keep adequate standby
troops stationed at the front here

created
00:22:43
a regional force in 2015 with an
anticipated budget of 700 $1000000.00
00:22:51
But the defense officials said less than
50 percent of the promised money has been

$30.00 of its soldiers in the task

enough this week the defense minister's
00:23:13
resolved that each country will negotiate
salary agreements with their respective
00:23:19
militaries while the regional force will
provide additional weapons to the troops.
00:23:25
They joint task force has succeeded in
taking much of the territory book around
00:23:31
once held in Nigeria however that
success has brought fresh challenges
00:23:38
said General I met Mohammad who is in

00:23:44
Nigerian Defense headquarters they have
been degraded substation but because of
00:23:50
that they have now broken into
00:23:52
a small loss can cause and is becoming much
more difficult to harness our resources
00:23:57
to deal with them decisively the defense
said factions that coordination I'm not
00:24:04

recent months which have caused more people
00:24:10
to flee their homes intensifying the
regional humanitarian crisis. Maki.
00:24:19
For Vo in me yeah I won't be.
00:24:29
In the d.r.
00:24:30
C 8 soldiers have been sentenced for the
deaths of civilians and because I probably
00:24:34
last year 2 soldiers were sentenced to 20
years in prison while 3 others received
00:24:40
15 year sentences others are deceived
shorter prison terms the soldiers went on
00:24:46
trial after
00:24:46
a video surfaced of Congolese troops
walking among the bodies of at least 20
00:24:51
civilians the government is battling
a local militia in cuz site the u.n.
00:24:56
And others say as many as 3000 people have
been killed in the region and more than
00:25:01
1000000 displaced.
00:25:12
And no more minutes Curt's
and large earrings for
00:25:16
a female civil servants in Uganda
main staff are now at a court to wear
00:25:21
a jacket and a tie the Ugandan
government instituted
00:25:24
a new dress code for public workers this
week and it continues to anger some people
00:25:30
Toumani reports from Kampala. Women
activists in Uganda have criticized the new
00:25:36
dress code for civil servants as
00:25:38
a distraction from the real issues in the
country Perry tour is executive director
00:25:44
of Women's Democracy Network is it that
men do not have in this type of control
00:25:50
when the girl is just as it in those images
calling for your attention let us focus
00:25:55
on the real issues that you
governors are grappling with
00:25:58
a 5th of the resources that inefficiency
in service delivery system to zoom in
00:26:04
except this city needs that service as the
Ministry of Public Service issued the
00:26:11
directive on decent dressing Tuesday it
prohibits female staff from wearing tight
00:26:15
clothing open toed shoes and scouts all
dresses above the knees bright colored nail
00:26:21
polish Hey extensions exaggerated makeup
on Shine the earrings are also on the
00:26:26
bundle least the directive didn't spare men
either all male offices are required to
00:26:31
dress in neat Dr houses but not ones that
are tight fitting and only closed tall
00:26:37
black and brown shoes should be
want to the office along with
00:26:41
a jacket and tie I don't wonder is the humor
of the ministry of public service she
00:26:47
defends the new measures
people in Uganda have
00:26:50
a perception of what the public office to
should look like and this is the image we
00:26:54
are trying to protect and preserve we are
saying I'm not above the knee and for one
00:27:00
reason above the knee you know want to to
move into the most of them don't want to
00:27:04
sexual harassment because when you see
it you're exposing us size which is not
00:27:08
generally accepted and it's come district
of us from rights groups say the previous
00:27:14
$10.00 to $10.00 public order requiring
dress to be neat and practical for one's
00:27:19
job was sufficient Ugandans have penned
opinion pieces in local media Guinness the
00:27:24
dress code with one lawyer writing that
rights aren't taken away overnight they're
00:27:29
taken away in small beats the state
owned newspaper pup. At least it's
00:27:34
a good ticket Wednesday 3 civil servants
00:27:36
a man and 2 women not admitting to the new
dress good viewing caught up with one
00:27:41
public Waka who declined to give her name
Yeah I think my bad days cunt distract
00:27:46
someone so the government should not discuss
about that the penalties would use the
00:27:51
being the new dress code on the direct 100
simply fade cases would be too fide for
00:27:56
the prominence of the Ministry of

00:40:01
financial front come and sunny thing in the
history of bucks and we'll never never
00:40:07
see anybody like Floyd main would remember
this right is going to make more than
00:40:11
$600000000.00 sunny and not only that
Friday is that cool promoters Sunny
00:40:18
he gets his gun $9450000000.00 on the front
and then on the back end when Tippit of
00:40:23
the bread is broken he will pick up I
don't know $75.00 to $100000000.00.
00:40:30
Tell me does not crazy people bank. Is
00:40:36
a great fight though and this will clearly
be the biggest payday of McGregor's
00:40:41
career my great guy's got $2100000000.00
man the last biggest payday for him was
00:40:47
$5000000.00 so you go make
the calculation on the.
00:40:53
Knobby they're still talk of Anthony
Joshua and blot Amir Klitschko having
00:40:58
a rematch What's the latest
there is yet to treat guys
00:41:02
a rematch clause but he made it
clear to the promoter Duff a.j.
00:41:05
That he will not go back to the u.k.
00:41:08
For remind each which means forget about
in $1000.00 out of Wembley before any away
00:41:14
out in the u.k.
00:41:15
What we're looking at now and I mentioned
in Nigeria mentioning Dubai mentioning
00:41:20
Las Vegas what do you think is the likely
choice Nandi is not going to be tough in
00:41:26
Lagos. Just stadium it's going to be at the
moment I ring in Las Vegas take that to
00:41:32
the bank sonny. When we see it at the end
of 2017 Klitschko better make up his
00:41:38
mind quickly because the colander for 27000
you know he's loaded you've got 2 big
00:41:44
ones in the summer triple g.
00:41:46
Cano my Greg and me. Then you see have
00:41:50
a dram Broun on all of the colonized load
if you going to do it but the good thing
00:41:55
about Las Vegas and team will be the arena
it's in the stadium and it's going to
00:42:00
sell out quick people would come from ever
imagine the fight fans coming in from
00:42:04
the u.k.
00:42:05
They would ring do it spend money so it may
not be in October I would say more like
00:42:10
November December gives them enough time
to do the promotions and it's going to be
00:42:15
a good one Andre Ward
recently stops or de Kovel in
00:42:20
a rematch like Packie Al Hornet was
controversial nom de Kovel of camp saying Ward
00:42:26
was throwing low blows throughout the
fight including at the end your thoughts.
00:42:33
Sunny crush I was just
00:42:35
a big talking sorry loser he lost that
fight he wasn't able to make adjustments
00:42:41
from the 1st fight this is
00:42:43
a clear case of effective body
punching by and reward this is
00:42:47
a guy that we believe can't even
break an egg. Suddenly knocks out
00:42:52
a punch and stops
00:42:53
a punch but he was effective with the
body shots and not body shots took
00:42:57
a lot out of cover left go live now blaming
the referee for the low blow was not
00:43:02
global it's what we call our bottom line
in the fight game if you look at the fire
00:43:06
closely coverlet was looking for an excuse
to bail out because you know I mean he
00:43:11
was being pounded and he didn't expect
it all the trash talk he said before the
00:43:16
fight like pillow fist that punch he called
underwater call him all kinds of name
00:43:20
but he couldn't back it up so now he's
blaming the referees blaming this person I
00:43:25
think it's time for cover left to just
go away I'll move up in weight because 2
00:43:29
fights we're not going to take
00:43:31
a rematch no rematch. Thanks Nom de
that's our reigning prince pugilistic
00:43:37
nom de Hollywood Mo wait.

by his stage name mc hammer with his big

it's ports social media time with Vo ways
Doug Barnard Happy Friday Doug Happy
00:48:10
Friday I think it was
00:48:11
a wise idea for him to
change is named. What's
00:48:17
trending out there in the sports
world well I know you mentioned
00:48:21
a little bit earlier this this tragedy at
at Wimbledon Bethany Matic Sands who took
00:48:27
a very bad spit spill very distressing
scenes Well lots of people tweeting out
00:48:32
their support for their well wishes people
from you know plain old ordinary fans to
00:48:38
really some legendary tennis figures
Martina Navratilova herself and one time I
00:48:43
think singles winner tweeted out I'm just
devastated about Bethany Maddox and and
00:48:48
her injury we're all behind you hoping
for the best lots of love. Chris Everett
00:48:54
also herself something of
00:48:56
a legend I think added she she tweeted out
going over the day and remembering a b.
00:49:02
Matic that's her Twitter handle in my
thoughts and prayers wishing this very
00:49:07
special lady a speedy
recovery here's a tweet from
00:49:10
a fan who calls him or herself sport not
distressing scenes in the magic sands
00:49:17
match today even more
distressing than e.s.p.n.
00:49:20
Airing the tape with the audio and
as we may have heard she was in
00:49:25
a dream and she was screaming it was clearly
and her opponent ran over and nobody
00:49:30
seemed to know what to
do it was just it. Just
00:49:33
a horrible scene So anyway that's that's
one thing that's certainly getting
00:49:36
a lot of attention there on Twitter today
there's another story that's getting
00:49:41
a lot of attention on Twitter we
mentioned we perhaps get a bit of
00:49:45
a send up for this yesterday we
were talking about the n.b.a.
00:49:49
Free agency and players are now sort of
shopping themselves around seeing the best
00:49:54
deals that they can get well Tim Hardaway
Jr who was originally drafted by the New
00:50:00
York Knicks back in 2013 although it may
be 14 I may have those numbers wrong Ok he
00:50:06
was originally drafted by them they let
him go he went off to another team
00:50:13
and now the Knicks have resigned him
Tim Hardaway Tim Hardaway Jr now has
00:50:20
a deal with the New York Knicks
for $71000000.00. Over 4 years
00:50:26
71000000 dollars So for 4 years to strike
I'm still trying to let that sink in and
00:50:32
a lot of people on Twitter are trying to
let that sink in as to it doesn't seem to
00:50:36
be helping very much Here's here's
just incident number of examples Chris
00:50:42
Zab a-D. Tweets out I don't
think I'm ready to live in
00:50:46
a world where Tim Hardaway Jr is
71000000 dollars over 4 years.
00:50:52
Kristen 34 has this to say good morning to
everybody except Knicks fans justifying
00:50:58
their offer sheet to Tim Hardaway Jr It's
00:51:01
a typically typically
stupid Knicks move not
00:51:04
a big name in there I guess or not I'm not
00:51:06
a fan at least of this deal that's been
offered one more the next really just gave
00:51:11
Tim Hardaway Jr an amount of money 29 other
teams wouldn't offer him even if the
00:51:17
number denomination. Star was in
yen. You know Tim Hardaway Jr.
00:51:25
You know interesting player but you know
has really not been I mean if you're
00:51:29
thinking players not a not
00:51:31
a superstar no. And like especially this
last year I mean I think he was averaging
00:51:37
maybe 14 points a game
I mean just you know
00:51:40
a good player but wow Anyway it's minus
not to argue why well Doug we're about
00:51:46
a week into cycling's premier of that what's
the latest from France Yes indeed well
00:51:52
Marcel Kittel the German giant has won his
3rd stage it was the 7th stage today he
00:51:58
won his 3rd stage today in
00:52:00
a photo finish it couldn't have gotten much
closer I mean I've seen race horses you
00:52:06
know snout to snout at that line before
I've never really quite seen it at the but
00:52:10
at the they have photo finishes there he
won that gives him the green jersey. And
00:52:16
which means he's the points leader Chris
Froome still has the yellow yellow jersey
00:52:19
but I just wanted to mention
one player that's not getting
00:52:22
a lot of attention but he is in his
home nation it's Tom. Gourmet he's one
00:52:29
of 5 riders from Africa and the very 1st
ever Ethiopian rider right in the Tour
00:52:36
de France and turned pro
not expecting necessarily
00:52:39
a lot from him this year but interesting
to follow his his course this year and
00:52:45
interesting to follow the spread of cycling
you know outside of perhaps just South
00:52:49
Africa in the in Africa and speaking of
Africa the overall leader Froome I believe
00:52:55
was born in Nairobi he was
he was his he does have a
00:53:00
a international pedigree although he lives
on the Isle of Man now which makes him
00:53:06
a Breton and as they call them those who
live on the Isle of Man they're called
00:53:11
Manx man I just have one last quick
story this very short not necessarily
00:53:15
a social media story but it
turns out a new day it was
00:53:20
a professional runner from
Kenya was practicing at
00:53:22
a nature trail in Maine where he lives
and he was charged at by 2 black bears
00:53:30
he couldn't go in the water because he said
I know I can't swim. He said I couldn't
00:53:33
climb up a tree because bears can
climb trees so he just ran into
00:53:37
a vacant house and he was just able by
the skin of his teeth quick thinking and
00:53:43
didn't do it so good luck
to him Thank you Doug v.
00:53:46
Always Doug Bernard And that wraps up the

And Russia at odds such as the Russian
